Northern Voice was written for the Ars Nova choir and premiered at a concert at the Glyptotek Museum in Copenhagen in 1984. There is no text in the work; the syllables sung by the singers are chosen for their timbral quality and the choir functions as an integrated part of the instrumental ensemble. The work includes a trumpet solo.
