I met the amazing Indian flute player Shashank Subramanyam in July this year, when he performed as soloist in my piece ”Shiva’s Dance” for big band, motion-tracking system and bamboo flute. Our collaboration was so successful that we agreed to play together again soon. In November 2019, I performed “November Ritual 2019” at The Black Diamond in Copenhagen together with Palle Mikkelborg, trumpet, Helen Davies, harp and my daughter Mira Siegel, vocals. When Shashank announced that he had plans to visit Denmark in November 2023, the idea for ”November Ritual 2023” was born, this time as a quartet with Shashank, Parupalli, Mira and me. The concert will be a one-hour tribute to November darkness, with enchanting Indian flute playing, interactive electronic music, meditative drone-based improvisation and a couple of dark, dark Danish songs.
