Match II

for flute and interactive computer (15′)

1998

Match II is the second of a series of works for solo instrument and computer, the first being Match I for percussion and computer. The similarity between the two works lies mainly in the relationship between the instrumentalist and the computer, in that the computer follows the performer and reacts to the performance according to a set of compositional rules that the composer has developed in the form of a computer program. Although the computer reacts differently from performance to performance, the compositional style or “trade mark” of the work is always clearly the same.
