Seven Celestial Songs
Seven Celestial Songs was a collaboration between Wayne Siegel and the AVOPA vocal group. The work was premiered on October 11th, 2024 during Copenhagen Culture Night at the iconic Black Diamond overlooking Copenhagen Harbour.
The work is based on the Himmelmekanik – Wayne Siegel’s permanent site-specific sound installation at the Black Diamond. Himmelmekanik plays daily on the huge 12-channel sound system installed in the ceilings of the Black Diamond. The installation is an algorithmic, computer-generated composition affected by the position of the sun in the sky, the cycle of the moon and by local weather conditions.
Himmelmekanik could be heard between 6:00 PM and midnight on the night of the performance. Seven “songs” were improvised live by AVOPA during the course of the evening. The singers reacted to the changing soundscapes of the sound installation, creating music in the moment.
